Cosmic Weather Forecast for the week ending June 6, 2009

So, I am sure that many of you are leaping over for joy today as Mercury retrograde came to an end during the evening hours last night. Not so fast, Mercury still has to travel to 2 Gemini before we get out of its shadow period, and on its way it will re-aspect the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune bringing forth the height of the retrograde period, which occurred last week. During the shadow period, we should stay concentrated on cleaning up any of the debris that might be in our way as a result of the last 3 weeks. Mercury will move out of shadow on June 14.

As far as your week is concerned, the Moon will be in the social signs this week reflecting more of an urge for us to go out and make contacts with other people whether that is socially or romantically. This is a great week for romantic improvement as Venus will sextile Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune providing us with opportunities to expand our social circle and have a little bit of fun. Combined with the Mars trine to Pluto, we could use much to our advantage this week and have the drive and determination to accomplish much.

Both Venus and Mars move into the earth sign of Taurus this week. If you have a predominance of earth in your chart, that would be Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn, this could create an easy harmonious period for you through the month of June. Circumstances that upset you or were obstacles in May can turn around in a rather pleasing way for you. Since, Venus and Mars are going to conjunct in June; you could find your love life heating up over the summer.

On Friday, Sun will square Saturn, which could be a bit of a drag as we head into the weekend, especially on the business level. Saturn tends to restrict and put obstacles in the path of the Sun, which can be frustrating to say the least. However, Saturn also gives us the ability to get things done and get it done right.

The Moon will be in Sagittarius next weekend, so get out there and have a bit of fun.

The Moon will soon be finished with the sign of Leo, and the energy will change once again.  The Moon will go void of course at 3:56 AM EDT, and it is suggested we do not make any choices or decisions during the void period.    The Moon’s last aspect before going void is an opposition to Neptune creating quite a confusing type of energy when we wake up on Monday morning.   During this aspect, I find that I need that extra cup of coffee or tea as Neptune keeps us our slumber for longer than we wish. 

Around 11:34 AM EDT, the Moon will move out of Leo and into Virgo creating quite the energy shift.   Fire is filled with energy and opportunity, whereas earth is filled with hard controlled reality.   Focus may shift to your day to day activities, and you may find yourself analyzing the circumstances and situations in your life with more urgency than you have for the past few weeks.  This Moon is extremely delicate and expects our environment to be orderly, practical, and reliable.   If you have considering going over old records, or getting your tax information together this sign is one of the best opportunities to do so.

Today the Moon continues to trek through Leo giving way to dramatic feelings filled with great intensity.   The Moon in Leo loves to be the center of attention, and you can do this best by being generous and loyal to those around you.  Since, the communication planet Mercury moves into Pisces today, this can accentuate the intensity of the Moon and give way to feelings of heightened intuition and receptivity to others around us.  It all just seems so wonderful and perfect, doesn’t it?

Ok, now on with reality.   Just as Mercury and the Moon do the tango of other worldly visions and romantic reception, The God of War Mars will conjoin with Neptune in social Aquarius.   This is a very frustrating aspect, because Mars tends to go into “wimp” mode when he confronts the giant Fish God.  In traditional Astrology, Mars in Aquarius is considered “peregrine”, and often feels misplaced in the sign.   You may feel a bit lethargic and out of balance under this energy.  One of the best ways to handle this energy is to take time to rest today, and make sure you avoid any activity of competition as Mars/Neptune can feel quite ineffectual.    This aspect is rather idealistic, so make sure to honor your inner fight and keep your feet on the ground.

Finally, as if Mars and Neptune were not enough frustrating energy for one day, the Sun will oppose Saturn around 3:53 PM EST.   Under this aspect, we may feel a lack of confidence, at odds with authority and downright cranky.   The planet of restriction prevents the Sun from shining bright.  This often leads to power struggles between the two planets.  Since the aspect is an opposition, the likeliest “path” of expression is through our relationships.  To get through the evening hours avoid confrontations, reactions, and attempt to be compassionate of the needs of others.  

Anytime we have a planet retrograding we can use these periods to review what is transpiring in our lives via the nature of the planet that is retrograde.  The area that Venus primarily rules is relationships through its rulership over Libra and money and/or finances through its rulership over Taurus.

 Venus is retrograding in the sign of her detriment Aries.   The reason Venus is in detriment in Aries is because Venus is not a real self focused planet – she needs things, she needs people; whereas Aries is pretty much concerned with one thing “me”!  Also, Venus can act quite compulsively when she is in the Mars natural sign, and “compulsive” is not a productive word for either “love” or “money”.   Be wary of getting involved in new relationships during this period, as they tend to burn out as fast as they heat up.  However, past relationships you believed were over may resurface during this time.  

The Moon will go void of course in Cancer at 7:29 PM on Friday evening with its last aspect a trine to Uranus in Pisces.  This evening can be used as an evening to relax, stay at home, get comfort food, and watch a good movie or catch up on some programs recorded on your TIVO.

The Moon will enter Leo at 8:24 AM on Saturday Morning.  There are no aspects on this day, which makes Saturday a “Moon” day.   Leo is the sign of pleasure, children and enjoyment, so stay true to yourself and enjoy the weekend.

The Moon moving into cancer will turn our focus towards our homes, family life, security issues, and our emotions.  It is a time to be comforted!   You may be required during this transit of the Moon to make some sacrifices and find yourself more “emotionally sensitive” to the needs of others.   Since the Moon will oppose transformative Pluto we may find ourselves a bit pulled by the motions and actions of others Thursday afternoon.

There are no direct aspects that occur Tuesday.   Therefore, we can consider this a “Moon” or lunar day.  You may find yourself with a need to express your feelings, and needs to those around you.  Since the Moon in Gemini always seeks intellectual rapport from their personal relationships you can utilize this time to find out more about the people in your life, and develop interest in others on a profound level.

Now, before you become worried that this blog post is a rehashing diatribe of the current financial crisis, the purpose was to describe how the Moon operated when it is in Taurus.   We can use this energy to be more productive, and take the time to focus on your own financial goals and create a plan to weather the crisis in a productive nature.  This is amplified by yesterdays Mercury/Mars conjunction, which is a good aspect for starting projects and initiating plans.

The Moon will go void of course at 5:43PM EST, and its last aspect is a square (obstacles) to Neptune.  You could find yourself feeling insecure and frustrated as we move into the evening hours.   Take the time this evening to focus on more positive dimensions of Neptune, which could include meditation, yoga, or connecting to your idea of the divine.

For years, I have struggled with the prospect of making astrology more mainstream and understandable.  We have made enormous progress in the industry, but still astrology remains the unwanted stepchild of the arcane sciences.  Why?  Perhaps this is one of the manifestations of Pluto transit through Sagittarius or perhaps the mutual reception of Uranus and Neptune, both of which are grasping for the perfect vision (Uranus in Pisces) of group idealisms (Neptune in Aquarius).  In a struggling world we often seek the divine and those who speak a “spiritual language” to help assuage our angst and disappointments with life.

Pluto (planet of death, transformation, and regeneration) has now moved out of visionary Sagittarius, and entered into structured Capricorn, and I already sense a change.  More people are consulting me about the “why” rather than the “when”.   The hurting, lonely, angry, and tired are now seeking solutions rather than band-aids.   Many are seeking “practical” (Capricorn) tools of transformation (Pluto) that will facilitate permanent change.

One of the tolls we can use to create permanent change is attempting to understand the patterns at work in the universe at the current time.   Although understanding universal patterns is not mutually exclusive of astrology, the cosmic science does provide a vast wealth of information if we can utilize it.  Astrology can provide us with a “plan” that we can utilize to make better choices, and to assist us in making better decisions to navigate through the storms in our life.  Out of the desire to assist others understand the energies available, I have decided to create the “Cosmic Weather Forecast”.

Oh, how exciting the sign of Leo can be. The King of the Zodiac rules everything from our lustful carnal desires to our sense of self and inner autonomy. However, this Full Moon in Leo is no ordinary garden variety event it is a Lunar Eclipse! Its effects will last until the next eclipse cycle begins in July.

Eclipses are interesting and recently there has been enormous information published on the internet about them and their effects; however there is much controversy over their meaning and relevancy. Many astrologers use the information provided by eclipses to map the twists and turns of the political landscape, and others write about their occurrences in connection with the natal chart with intensity, awe, and great wonder. Interestingly, much is said about them, but complete understanding of eclipse effects is as fleeting as the moons phases. However, one thing I am certain of is that eclipses cannot “make” things happen, they serve as triggers for “other” energies at play, which have been building up over long periods of time. Eclipses reveal “what possibly” could occur, but do not guarantee events. I believe this general “understanding” should be used with both mundane and natal charts.

Now, I am not an expert on eclipses, I leave that to those much more acclimated to this extensive and laborious study. However, I do believe that a general understanding of how to interpret them in a natal chart is necessary. For the purposes of this blog, I will be focusing on natal charts.

Further, there are many basic astrological references that are readily available on the internet, which will assist you in discovering and/or understanding the personal components of your horoscope. A lunar eclipse is a full moon lunation. When we are working with them we need to think in terms of pairs of signs or a polarity. Anytime we are dealing with an “opposition” aspect the issues of relationships come to the center stage as they are the primary concern of lunar eclipses which tend to manifest in terms of physical events and emotional encounters with others. This can happen in a direct or indirect fashion, as we tend to notice what we lack in our lives when we are influenced by them. Often, the issues that are stirred up can bring two people together or can end a relationship or circumstance we had great emotional investment in. The area of life an eclipse affects is not coincidental, yet a part of the chart that has been building inside us for some time. The eclipse makes us feel very compulsive and urges us to make changes by releasing the old and accepting the new.

The polarity we are concerned with under this current eclipse is the Leo/Aquarius axis. The crisis in the polarity, evoked by the eclipse brings to the surface issues surrounding the opposing forces that are innate within the polarity. Therefore, Leo/Aquarius is the balancing of all things personal (Leo) and all things collective (Aquarius). The energy of Leo pertains to the areas of life, which are personal and revolves around personal wants, needs and desires. Conversely, the energy of Aquarius has everything to do with the areas of life which concern the group and revolves around group motivations, needs, and yearnings.

One some level we are all affected by eclipses. For many it may be noticeable, and for others it may be experienced in the lives of those that “affect” us in a direct manner. For example, this eclipse lands within 2 degrees of Pop Star Madonna’s natal Sun, yet the news of the day does not involve her, but her current significant other Alex Rodriguez.

To get a glimpse of how this eclipse is going to affect your life, you can also review the last time this eclipse made a path through your chart. This eclipse pattern is the same eclipse pattern that occurred in February 1990. Think about the events that occurred in your life at that time, and what events and lessons these experiences taught you. If you found yourself looking at career issues in 1990, you may find yourself looking at career issues again in 2009. Regardless, the patterns repeat themselves about every 18-19 years, and refocus our attentions on those areas of life that they occur. The eclipse will trigger issues in the natal horoscope where Leo/Aquarius axis lie and often will affect the house(s) the eclipse is in as well as any planet within a 2 degree orb of the Eclipse. We experience them as a sudden surge of intellectual or intuitive understanding that gives our life more meaning, and often pushes us into action in the areas of our chart where they fall. Since this eclipse is in the sign of Leo, issues surrounding flaws and difficulties in romantic relationships, our children, and creative activities rise to the surface in order for us to review and force us to make changes in the areas they directly affect.

If the eclipse transits over a natal planet you may feel an urge or intensity in the areas of life governed by the planet. If the eclipses conjoins with your natal Venus you may find that the areas of your personal relationships, what you desire out of a relationship and your finances can be strong influenced. On the other hand, if the eclipse squares your natal Sun, you could find issues surrounding your identity, your urge to be yourself and a need to create something new in your life rise to the surface.

It is necessary to also keep in mind the house in your chart where the eclipse falls. Eclipses tend to stir up the areas of your life governed by the houses where they fall. If the eclipse falls in your 1^st house, you may find issues surrounding the need to redefine your personal needs, the image you project to the outer world, and placing your personal needs foremost in your life while being attentive to the needs of others. If the eclipse lands in your 7^th then you may need to place the needs of your relationships before other areas of your life, while staying true to yourself and your own principles. Finally, if the eclipse lands in the 10^th house issues surrounding your career and vocational ambitions may come to the surface. You may find yourself attracted to new lines of work, making career changes, or possibly being promoted or achieving a new pinnacle in your personal life.

The power of eclipses is a great mystery. They appear in our lives out of the blue, which often shake up our foundation and force us to focus our attention on areas of life where the eclipse lands in our charts. However, eclipses help us understand our own rhythms and life patterns, and the deeper flow of life’s ever-changing cycles occurring on both the physical and emotional level. This gives us a glimpse into a life that is neither unexpected nor random, but a natural evolution of the Self.
