Moon in Virgo

Tap Into the Power of the New Moon in Virgo

The New Moon is an astrological phenomenon that happens once a month that is often overlooked by many as they live their day to day lives.  Although we see evidence of this through the changes of the seasons in both animal and plant life, many of us – possibly with enormous arrogance – seem to presume that we are too sophisticated to listen to such basic and ordinary rhythms.  However, psychological studies have revealed that our inner world is still strongly influenced by these cyclical changes, and as such it might benefit us to listen to them.

Anytime there is a concern with cyclical changes there is also a concern with astrology.  After all, astrology is the cosmic science that ‘weighs and measures’ how the influence of the planets affect human beings and define our lives.  Since we are conscious beings (hopefully), we do have more control over the manifestation of such influences, yet we still must recognize that on the inner level our relationship with the planetary bodies is important and beneficial.

Every month the New Moon provides us with a seed level for the upcoming month.   It tells us what the basic energy of the month is, and

how we can work with it.  We can utilize its power to do intention work or simply to understand ourselves and our inner process on a deeper level.  In astrological jargon, the New Moon is actually a conjunction between the Sun and the Moon and every conjunction has a feeling of the sign of Aries attached to it.  Since Aries is the most personal of the personal signs, we can use the energy to plan out the month.

The New Moon which happens on August 28, 2011 occurs in the sign of Virgo.  Virgo is known for its picky and critical nature, but what does this really mean?  On the deepest level, Virgo (since it is Mercury ruled) gives us the ability to see what is wrong with our lives, and begin to work on these issues.   In the tarot, it is connected with the wise Hermit card, who through his illuminating lantern reveals to us things that we cannot see in the dark.   According to Kabbalah, all of our negative characteristics are simply potentials for creating light.   This month we are able to see our self-defeating behaviors in the light of day, and we can begin the process of changing them.

The astrological aspects of this New Moon are powerful and filled with the promise of opportunity if we are willing to take up the task of working with it.   The New Moon will conjoin with Venus, trine Jupiter, and trine Pluto creating what is known as a grand earth trine.  A grand earth trine is known for its ability to create opportunities in the material world, yet there is the responsibility of staying focused to achieve our desires.  If you have ideas or projects that are on the backburner waiting to be born, now is the time to dust them off and give life to them.

Tarot Tune-Up: Get out your tarot or oracle deck.   Shuffle the cards thoroughly.   Ask yourself the following question, “What are the primary blocks that are preventing my success?”   Draw a card out of the deck.   This is your block to work through during the month of Virgo.

Wednesday, we move out of the realm of order, service, and discipline into the realm of relationships and partnerships.  The Moon moves out of Virgo and into Libra at 11:22pm EDT on Tuesday, and spends the entire day in Libra as we prepare for the Full Moon on Thursday.   The Moon in Libra expresses feelings in a refined civilized manner, and avoids conflicts at all costs.  While the Moon moves through the sign of the scales we will notice the need to bring harmony into our personal lives, and experience life in an ethical and fair manner.

Despite the Moon being placed in such a gentile sign, she opposes Venus and squares Pluto early in the transit.   Difficult aspects to both Venus and Pluto may bring up feelings of insecurity, confusion, and intensity into our relationships with others throughout the day.   The dual planetary combination (Venus/Pluto) can bring forth obsessions (Pluto) and addictions (especially to food) as a form of escaping the emotional turbulence of the aspects.  Today, we should utilize the most positive dimension of Pluto, and attempt to understand ourselves and our emotions on a more profound and deeper level.  This will allow us to experience our own feelings, and help reclaim our own power.

Tuesday morning we wake up to a lovely aspect of cerebral Mercury sextiling creative and imaginative Neptune.   This aspect grants us the gift of sensitivity to others, artistic expression, and a sharpened intuition.  Listening to our “gut” is imperative, as the aspect requires us to move away from apparent facts and reasoned logic to give space to spirit and intuitive hunches.  This is a great day to explore our inner world through meditation, relaxation, and service to the larger picture rather than the apparent world around us.

Enjoy the morning hours, as the Moon will go void of course in the early afternoon hours on the East Coast, and late morning hours on the West.  Try to avoid making major decisions or choices during the void period, as they tend to unravel and become undone.  The Moon’s last aspect is an opposition to disruptive Uranus, which will make us feel a little restless, insecure, impulsive and irritated through the remainder of the day.

Moreover, the Moon in hard aspect to Uranus can provoke difficulties in both friendships and relationship matters.  The Moon will move out of Virgo and into relationship oriented Libra during the very late evening hours.

As we begin the work week, the Moon continues to move through dutiful and organized Virgo.  The day begins with an aspect between the Moon forming a harmonious trine to Pluto in goal oriented Capricorn.  This is a positive time for you to focus on your goals, achievements, and putting your well developed ideas into action.  Also, this will be a good day to focus on finances, investments, and any form of financial repair or analysis.

In addition, Mercury will semisextile Uranus.  In astrology, the semisextile is a rather controversial aspect and there is much debate over whether it is a beneficial or stressful aspect because of its connection to the 2nd and 12th houses.   Regardless there seems to be small inconveniences (12th house) which can bring forth new opportunities (2nd house).  Mercury/Uranus can provide subtle energy to help propel us out of circumstances we are stuck in, and provide us with the intuitions to help guide us into our future.

Towards the end of the day, Moon will conjoin with Saturn retrograde at around 11:11pm EDT.   Moon/Saturn aspects can feel very punishing and very restricting.   Saturn requires hard work, determination, and grit, and often it can make the Moon feel quite inadequate.  Make sure that your “homemade” self inflicted bully club is tucked safe away in the closet, and feel assured that you did the best that you could possibly do today.

Sunday should prove to be an interesting if not dramatic day, as the Moon in Leo goes void of course during the morning hours.  The last aspect the Moon will make is the opposition to Neptune bringing forth conflicting emotions, withdrawal, lack motivational energy, and in many cases a lack of confidence.   Often, the Moon in opposition to Neptune can bring forth moments of feeling blue, nostalgic, and oversensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and actions of others.   With this in mind, we can use the energy of Neptune to tap into our spiritual lives, our need to connect to a source higher than ourselves, and an attempt to understand ourselves and our own character defends on a deeper level.

On a more positive note, the Moon will move into Virgo during the evening hours.   The Moon in Virgo expresses itself in a refined, controlled, and serious way.  Since the only aspect made will be the conjunction to dwarf planet Ceres we have the ability to comfort ourselves and listen to our inner and outer needs, and we can act upon what needs to be nurtured in our lives.

Seven Day Forecast:

4/7:  Mercury sextile Neptune
4/9:  Mercury In Taurus
4/9:  Full Moon @ 19 Libra
4/10:  Sun Sextile Jupiter
4/11:  Mercury trine Pluto
4/11:  Venus Retrograde into Pisces

Wasn’t the weekend rather interesting?  Many of my friends and clients called me on Sunday evening to express how perplexing and out of sorts they felt.  One of them even complained about an obnoxious odor permeating through his kitchen sink, with no known roots.   What an interesting way to experience Mars conjoined with Neptune!

The Moon will soon be finished with the sign of Leo, and the energy will change once again.  The Moon will go void of course at 3:56 AM EDT, and it is suggested we do not make any choices or decisions during the void period.    The Moon’s last aspect before going void is an opposition to Neptune creating quite a confusing type of energy when we wake up on Monday morning.   During this aspect, I find that I need that extra cup of coffee or tea as Neptune keeps us our slumber for longer than we wish.

Around 11:34 AM EDT, the Moon will move out of Leo and into Virgo creating quite the energy shift.   Fire is filled with energy and opportunity, whereas earth is filled with hard controlled reality.   Focus may shift to your day to day activities, and you may find yourself analyzing the circumstances and situations in your life with more urgency than you have for the past few weeks.  This Moon is extremely delicate and expects our environment to be orderly, practical, and reliable.   If you have considering going over old records, or getting your tax information together this sign is one of the best opportunities to do so.

Sneak Peak of your Extended Forecast:

Full Moon occurs on Tuesday at 20 Virgo 40
Mercury sextiles Pluto
Venus sextiles Jupiter

See you all tomorrow!
